Angus L. M. MacDonald

I rediscovered the joys of painting on retiral as a senior partner in a major Scottish architectural practice.

What started as a hobby has now developed into a full time occupation as an artist in watercolour, acrylics and mixed media. Subject matter is wide ranging, with special inspiration coming from the Scottish landscape and townscape. I just love studying the play of light as the weather affects the scene before me, the sun, the shadows the mood. As a native of Skye, I particularly enjoy the highland scene, especially Assynt, where my wife Morag and I have a house.

Regular forays to the continent result in plein air interpretations of the cities of mainly France, Spain and Italy including the painters jewel in the crown, Venice. I usually go with painting groups comprising different nationalities and have made many long lasting friendships this way, while also learning so much.

As an active member of Dundee Art Society and Broughty Ferry Art Society, where I teach a painting class, I enjoy the company of like minded souls. I demonstrate watercolour painting throughout Scotland, and have won a series of awards including Scottish finalist in Channel `s Watercolour Challenge, and the Artist Magazine`s Summer Painting Competition 2004 (Front cover of Dec. issue). I have just won first prize in the Spring 2007 front cover Competition for the Ken Bromley Art Supplies catalogue.

Having exhibited widely throughout Scotland, including Pitlochry Festival Theatre, Cross Keys Gallery, Perth and The Mall Galleries, London, I now have paintings in private collections all over the world.

The main event in the 2007 calendar will be a return to the Pittenweem Arts Festival where I share an Exhibition with fellow painter, Liz Yule. This year we are located at Priorsgait, 15 Cove Wynd, Pittenweem, as the guests of Graeme and Julie Hogg. We would be delighted to see you there between the 3rd. and 12th. August.

The other exciting new venture for Liz and myself, this year, is that we are taking a residential painting workshop near Carcassonne in France during the month of May this year.

Currently, due to pressure of work, exposure is restricted to the following Galleries:

Aberfeldy Gallery, Aberfeldy; Frames Gallery, Perth; The Meigle Gallrey; The Ealain Gallery, Bridge of Allan; The Fisher Gallery, Pittenweem; The Ealain Gallery, Dunblane and Beauly; The Village Gallery, Meigle; Achins Book Shop and Lochinver Larder, Lochinver as well as at Art Societies And Charity shows from Dundee to North Berwick.

Commissions include work for Perth and Kinross Council, paintings of Perth to be presented to Perth, Australia (featured on Australian TV) and to Schaffenburg, Germany.
